My Very Own Gold Medal

two minutes before 26 miles

two minutes after 26 miles

Today I ran my first marathon. I know most are surprised, in the past, I didn't even exercise let alone marathon train. So here is the story. My little sis had Signed up to run the Park City Marathon, and started her training. During this time she was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and has been fighting it ever since. It has been a roller coaster of emotions for her but she keeps working to get it under control. I know that she would have loved to run this marathon but since the diagnosis she can't run. So I started to train and was going to "Run it For Her" this only gave me two months to train for something that I should be training for six months. But it was more motivations. A marathon has been on my list of things to do for at least ten years. I was determined to finish it. And Today I did it. Not without some kinks in the road. Last week I had so much pain in my right ankle I was having a hard time putting any pressure on it. Yesterday morning I got the same stomach flu Jake had three days before and started throwing up. But by the mid day I was fleeing better and could keep food down. I was so nervous and at three in the morning I couldn't stand how much pain I was having in my ankle and had to start the Ibuprofen then.

I got up early and Jess drove me to the starting line. I didn't know what to expect from my ankle but as I started to run it loosened up and the pain was completely gone. What a blessing from the Lord. I felt great. The altitude didn't seem to be affecting me and by mile 6 I thought that this just might be easy. That story change quickly as I continued to run another 6 miles up hill. At mile thirteen I was ready to be done. I could feel the lack of energy and even though I had ran 18 miles before this seemed harder. I was truly humbled as 80 year old men passed me and I was beet, I decreased speed, and had to start walking through the water stations. I worked hard until mile 20. It got pretty ugly from then on out. But I was trying to run at least part of every mile until the 26.2 finish line. I didn't have the best finishing time but I was able to reach my goal of just finishing and it was nice to have reached my other goal of finishing under 5 hours. As I ran around the last corner I felt like crying I didn't know why, maybe it was because I had survived or that I had pushed myself and succeeded or seeing my family and kids cheer me on.
Matt couldn't make it because of work but he has been my biggest fan through it all. Taking the kids so that I could run as much as poss, bringing me ice when my bad knees hurt and always rooting for me. Ans thanks for all the prayers.
So when they handle me the metal I felt just like it was my very own Olympic gold.

hot dog overload

I never thought I would say it... but if I don't eat another hot dog in a long, long time it will be fine by me. First off, Matt and I went to Chicago two weeks ago for a little us time,(I will document that trip soon),and of course we had to hit the hot dog stands. "Downtown Dogs" was recommended as one of the best. I have never enjoyed a hot dog like it, it was loaded with onions, pickles, hallepino's and a bunch of other stuff. Nothing like a good hot dog. I soon left and flew to Las Vegas, (will post that trip soon), about two or three corn dogs later I hit my hot dog quota. The trip continued to my parents house, and I was greeted with a quick and easy microwavable hot dog to satisfy my hunger. Mmmm mmmm. But yesterday topped it off...my Brother in Law had tickets for the family to go to the Bee's Baseball game in Salt Lake, and what goes with Baseball better than big, juicy...hot dog??? The moment I saw my dad approaching our seats with not one, but four hot dogs in his hands, I instantly felt sick to my stomach. It is true too much of a good thing is not a good thing.

Are you a pet person?

So I go up and down when it comes to pets. Poop and pee I have enough of that. You have to find a babysitter for them when you go out of town. They stink. And the hair. But on the other hand so fun and so cute. Growing up we had cats. I wouldn't mind fish. I have always wanted a bird. We watched this friends dog and loved it. I wasn't the only one.

Transformers, more than meets the eye.

Jake and his friend, Peter, are so fun to watch play. Peter has gotten Jake into Transformers and brings them over to play. Jake said that transformers are his favorite. They have a lot of fun together. They even can sing the theme song. Peter knows it better but Jake is learning fast. It brings me back to when I was a kid; I would stay up really late on Friday and would wake up crazy early to watch cartoons. Transformers was a boy cartoon but I watched it anyway.

Thanks so much for all the Birthday wishes and the fun. I love you all. Birthdays are the best. I had such a wonderful day. I went for a run and the swimming with friends and my kids. Matt even "asked" me on a date. He picked me up with flowers and everything at the front door. He even had a babysitter arranged. You are best husband. After a romantic yet tasteful dinner, Matt surprised me with a bunch of friends at our house for cake. Thanks so much for coming. It really was so nice to celebrate with you all. Matt I love you
And yes it was a Happy Birthday

Rock On!

Me, Matt, the kids and some friends went rock climbing on Saturday. We hadn't gone since we moved to Nashville. It felt good to get back on the rock. I led one but it was really easy and Matt( who at one time was climbing 12a and bs) jumped on an 11b, is was a little shaky. Kidding, you know I love ya babe..........safety first. The kids were really good considering it was hot and humid. Both the kids wanted to climb too. We should get them a full body harness and see how they do. Can't wait to go again.
